Foreign journalists visit the headquarters of the Manifesta 15 biennial
The nomadic biennial will take place next autumn in different venues in Barcelona and its metropolitan area
For three days, Manifesta and DIPLOCAT representatives have accompanied a delegation of foreign journalists to visit some of the venues where the nomadic Manifesta 15 biennial will take place after the summer, from 8 September to 24 November. This is the 15th edition of a biennial originated in Holland which has traveled through different countries and now will arrive to Barcelona and its metropolitan area. This year's edition stands out for the decentralization of the event, which will reach a total of eleven cities with the aim of bringing culture to the outskirts of the great city and creating synergies between Barcelona and its surroundings.
In the words of its director, Hedwig Fijen, Manifesta 15 will use art and culture to deal with ecological transition and climate change, and analyse how cities will develop in the future. On this occasion, the biennial will have the contributions not only of curators and mediators, but also of collectives and researchers who are active in the field of green and social transition. The visiting sixteen foreign journalists, specialists in culture and design, belonged to media and magazines in Germany, Italy, France, Great Britain, Austria and Portugal. Foreign correspondents in Barcelona and Catalan press were also able to get to know first-hand the general lines and some venues of Manifesta 15.
The program has included, among others, visits to the Monastery of Sant Cugat; Egara complex in Terrassa; the Cases Barates (cheap houses) Museum in the Bon Pastor neighborhood; the Fabra i Coats Center for Contemporary Art; the three Chimneys of Sant Adrià de Besós; the old Mataró prison, which now houses a contemporary art center; the wetland of the Llobregat Delta; and the Can Trinxet factory in Hospitalet de Llobregat. The journalists were welcomed by local experts, architects and political leaders, as well as DIPLOCAT's Director of Communication and Press, Martí Estruch Axmacher, who explained the work carried out by the consortium.
