About 300 professionals meet at the 25th edition of the Euromed Docs Market

Co-organized by APIMED and Catalunya Internacional, MEDIMED 2024 took place last weekend near Barcelona

The Mediterranean Independent Producers Association (APIMED) and Catalonia International have jointly organized the 25th edition of the Euromed Docs Market (MEDIMED 2024). About 300 professionals from more than 50 countries participated in the activities scheduled from 17 to 20 October in Sitges. These professionals represent 65 television channels and 20 international distributors, as well as funding funds such as the Sundance Institute (USA), the Doha Film Institute (Qatar), the Catapult Film Fund (USA), First Hand Films (Switzerland) and Women Make Movies (USA).

This year, MEDIMED 2024 presented a selection of 70 documentary projects in various stages of development from 25 countries in the Euro-Mediterranean region. The program included various presentations (pitchings) and about a thousand face-to-face meetings between the participants, in addition to several parallel activities and a digital video library for viewing documentaries. Of these 70 projects, 6 are Catalan: "Antiquity Seekers" by Marc Chica (Limmat Films); "Centelles's Suitcase" by Pilar Pérez Solano (Minimal Films); "Juliette & Camille" by Paloma Zapata (La Fábrica Naranja); "Syntony" by Eva Vila (Araki Films); "The Paths of Disfrutar" by Alan Fàbregas and Ramon Pardina (Abacus); and "The Power Plant" by Arantza Diez (4 Cats Pictures).

The main objective of the Market is to put independent producers in contact with international television stations, financing funds, distributors, sales agents and festival programmers, with the mission of facilitating commercial and professional exchange and promoting audiovisual co-production between Catalonia, the European Union and the countries of the southern Mediterranean (Maghreb, Near East and Turkey). Under the direction of Sergi Doladé, the various actions carried out over the last 25 years have turned MEDIMED into an unmissable event for international documentary professionals. In recent years, more than 450 projects have found funding thanks to the Market.

MEDIMED has the support of the Catalan Institute of Cultural Enterprises (ICEC), the Spanish Institute of Cinematography and Audiovisual Arts (ICAA), the European Institute of the Mediterranean (IEMed), the Provincial Council of Barcelona and the City Council from Sitges.
