Social rights, at the centre of the new European agenda
This will be the topic of the fifth edition of the Social Europe debates, organized jointly with the Group of Entities of the Voluntary Sector of Catalonia
While the new European social agenda is still building up, after the last European Parliament election, Catalonia International and the Group of Entities of the Voluntary Sector of Catalonia organize the fifth edition of the Social Europe debates. Under the title "Social rights at the centre of the new European agenda: strengthening the influence of civil society and local and regional governments", the debate will take place on 10 December, International Human Rights Day. The goal is to analyse the implementation of the social policies launched so far by the European Commission and the member states and their new commitments with the European Pillar of Social Rights for the next four years.
The event will be opened by Enric Morist, president of the Group of Entities of the Voluntary Sector of Catalonia; Laura Foraster i Lloret, secretary general of Catalonia International; and Josep Antoni Rom, rector of Ramon Llull University. Finally, the Catalan Minister for Social Rights and Inclusion, Mònica Martínez Bravo, will close the event.
The debate will give voice to local and European actors working to influence the European agenda, specifically in processes such as the future anti-poverty strategy, the implementation of the European Pact on Migration and Asylum, the future European Action Plan for affordable housing, the new agenda for intergenerational dialogue and mental health, and the fight against hate speech.
Among the people participating in the debate will be Maria Nikolopoulou, vice-president of the equality group and the NAT (agriculture, rural development and environment) section of the European Economic and Social Committee (CESE); Danijel Ćubelić, vice president of the European Coalition of Cities Against Racism (ECCAR); Carlos Susías, president of the European Network against Poverty and EAPN-Spain; Pilar Muro, lecturer at the Faculty of Communication and International Relations of Blanquerna-Universitat Ramon Llull (URL); Hamza Bennis, responsible for work, digitization and public services of the Council of Municipalities and Regions of Europe (Belgium); Delal Atmaca, director of the Da Migra network (Germany); and Bárbara Mitats, responsible for federative programs and services of the Catalonia Mental Health Federation; and Raffaella Scalisi, coordinator of international relations and strategic projects at Torino Social Impact (Italy).
The event, supported by the Faculty of Social Education and Social Work of the Pere Tarrés Foundation (Ramon Llull University), will take place at the Social Hub Auditorium (Carrer Girona 34, Barcelona), from 9.30 to 1.30 pm, in Catalan and English with interpretation service.
