The popular and festive nature of the Day of Books and Roses in Catalonia captivates foreign journalists

A total of 90 reporters from all over the world have been invited for Sant Jordi by Catalonia International since 2015
With the aim of making the Day of Books and Roses known abroad, Catalonia International invites journalists from all over the world to Barcelona every 23 April. The Media Sant Jordi international visitors programme was launched in 2015 and in the 8 editions that have been held it has given the opportunity to 90 foreign reporters to experience the atmosphere of the festival of books and roses live and explain the experience in their respective countries.
This year, the seven participating journalists came from Portugal, Croatia, the United Kingdom, Latvia, Estonia, Austria and, for the first time, Japan. During their stay in Barcelona, the journalists met with writers and publishers, visited the Ateneu Barcelonès and the bookshop Ona Llibres, and met with personalities such as the Minister for the European Union and Foreign Action, Jaume Duch, the director of PEN Català, Gemma Rodríguez, the entire management team of the cultural Institut Ramon Llull, and the Director-General of Catalonia International, Laura Foraster i Lloret, among others. The programme also included a concert at the Palau de la Música Catalana and a FC Barcelona match at the Olympic Stadium against Mallorca.
Yesterday, once they visited the book and rose stalls on La Rambla, Passeig de Gràcia and Rambla de Catalunya, and after they spoke with buyers, writers and booksellers, the journalists were captivated by the popular and festive nature of Sant Jordi's Day and acknowledged that they had never seen a similar cultural event of this magnitude.
