Collaboration with the International Human Tower Festival in Berlin

Catalonia International organizes a talk on the Catalan tradition of human towers aimed at the German audience
About 600 castellers (human tower builders) gathered on Saturday at the Museum of European Cultures (MEK) in Berlin for the 5th International Human Tower Fest and presented their best constructions. This call, the most massive of those held so far, was attended by members of the teams based in London, Edinburgh, Paris, Brussels, Stockholm, Copenhagen, Zurich, Lausanne, Andorra, and the host, Castellers de Berlín. For the participants, the gathering is a demonstration of a collective project that crosses borders, a way of creating community and keeping alive an intangible cultural heritage of Humanity as declared by UNESCO in 2010.
Just before the Festival and to explain to the German public what they would see next, Catalonia International scheduled a talk in the Museum's auditorium, in collaboration with the Delegation of the Government of Catalonia to Germany. The Consortium's Director of Communication and Press, Martí Estruch Axmacher, spoke about the origins, historical evolution, structure, typology and significance of human towers for Catalan society. He also dedicated a section to its specific terminology and the translation into German. At the end of the event, a debate space was opened in which the audience raised questions about the construction technique, safety measures and the value of human towers as a tool for social integration.
