The Cadí Cooperative from La Seu d'Urgell (Lleida), known for its cheese and butter production, received the 10th Catalonia International Business Development Award last night in an event that took place at the Palau Sant Jordi in Barcelona and was attended by 1,400 people. The award was collected by the president of Cadí Cooperative, Jordi Calvet. The prize was included in the 38th edition of the PIMEC Awards, organized by the employers' association of small and medium-sized enterprises, one of the 38 entities that are part of the Catalonia International consortium.
The four finalist companies received a diploma from the secretary general of PIMEC, Josep Ginesta: coach body manufacturers Beulas (Arbúcies), clay figurine company Caganer (Torroella de Montgrí), chemical products company Lumar (Barcelona), and Vermuts Miró (Reus). The Director-General of Catalonia International, Laura Foraster i Lloret, congratulated the winners and finalists, emphasizing that the award aims to recognize the role of companies in promoting Catalan economy and its values around the world.
The award recognizes those companies that help project Catalonia abroad with an image of excellence, making its assets known and contributing to improving its international reputation. In previous editions, Aranow, Scytl, Moritz, Ultramagic, Beabloo, Munich, Yerse, El Rosal and Pinsos Ricart have been awarded.
Since 1915, the Cadí Cooperative has been producing butter and cheeses from the milk of its associated livestock farms in Alt Urgell and Cerdanya regions. It currently includes 64 farms, which produce 62 million liters of milk annually. The Cooperative has around 135 workers and an annual turnover of 53 million euros. 29% of the cheese production is exported, mainly to France, but also to Portugal and other countries such as the Czech Republic, Poland and the United States. The quality of the Cadí Cooperative's products has been recognised by the European Union, which has awarded the Protected Designation of Origin to Cadí butter, one of the few in Europe with this seal, and Urgèlia cheese, the only cheese made in Catalonia with a PDO.
