Journalists, more necessary than ever
Catalonia International collaborates on the international dimension of the VII Congress of Journalists of Catalonia
On 7 and 8 November, the VII Congress of Journalists of Catalonia took place at Barcelona’s CaixaForum. Organized by the Catalan Association of Journalists and coinciding with its 40th anniversary, the event served as a major gathering for the profession, bringing together nearly 700 accredited professionals and around 100 speakers. The aim was to reflect collectively on the challenges facing journalism at a key moment for democracy and the right to information. Catalonia International was one of the Congress partners, specifically supporting its international component.
Under the slogan "Journalists are more necessary than ever," the Congress highlighted the role of honest and responsible journalism as an essential tool to combat disinformation, hate speech and digital manipulation. Over the course of two days, participants debated issues such as artificial intelligence, media sustainability, new formats, the climate emergency and working conditions for media professionals. The programme included expert lectures, roundtables, discussion spaces and networking activities designed to connect professionals from across the country.

The opening keynote was delivered by American journalist Jodi Kantor of The New York Times, known for her investigative reporting that exposed Harvey Weinstein's abuses and helped launch the #MeToo movement. The programme also featured contributions from journalists such as Lucas Graves, Sandra Crucianelli, Ramon Besa, Neus Bonet, Anna Bosch and Alfonso Vara, among many others.
