Catalonia International takes part in the Build Peace 2025 international conference
From 21 to 23 November, organized by ICIP and Build Up
The international conference Build Peace 2025, organized from 21 to 23 November by the International Catalan Institute for Peace (ICIP) and the global non-profit Build Up in Santa Coloma de Gramenet, close to Barcelona, has brought together activists, researchers, technology professionals and organizations from around the world to promote safer and more democratic digital spaces, combat hate speech and redefine peace and security narratives. Catalonia International has collaborated in the organization of the event and the Director-General, Laura Foraster i Lloret, attended the opening session on Friday.
Over three days, more than 300 people took part in workshops, debates and artistic activities. The sessions covered topics such as disinformation and polarization on social nets, the development of ethical platforms and the use of technology to promote security and participatory democracy. The conference also addressed aspects of historical memory and reconciliation, analysing the Franco dictatorship and the German Holocaust, and claiming the value of peace processes. The 2025 edition has confirmed Build Peace as a global community that combines debate, art and culture, with activities such as a collaborative mural and the Build Peace Radio broadcasts.
Coinciding with the conference, ICIP and Build Up have published the monograph "Peace in the Digital Age", available in Catalan, Spanish and English, which analyses how technologies transform conflicts and peacebuilding processes. The next edition of Build Peace will be held at the University of Waterloo (Canada) in 2026.
