Participation in the Catalonia Abroad Council's plenary session

Catalan President says the Government is working to comply with Parliament's resolution on foreign vote

The Director-General of Catalonia International, Laura Foraster i Lloret, took part today in a new plenary meeting of the Catalonia Abroad Council, which was headed by the president of the Catalan Government, Salvador Illa, accompanied by the Minister for European Union and Foreign Action, Jaume Duch. Catalonia Abroad Director-General Oriol Lázaro also took part.

Catalonia International has a seat in the Catalonia Abroad Council, an advisory and collegiate body that advises the Government on the policy to be carried out in the field of Catalan communities abroad. The Council, which is starting a new mandate for the period 2025-29, presented its strategic plan for the coming years and took stock of the work carried out during the past year. The Council divides its work into four commissions: registration of Catalans abroad; support for Catalan communities abroad; migration processes; and education, language and youth.

In his opening speech, President Illa assured that the Government is working to comply with the resolution of the Parliament of Catalonia on the citizen law initiative regarding foreign vote, guaranteeing the highest security criteria and standards. Illa also expressed the desire to strengthen the teaching of Catalan in Catalan communities abroad. The President gave as an example the contribution in this regard made by the Institute Ramon Llull, which offers Catalan language courses in more than a hundred universities around the world.
