Visit by trade union representatives from the Four Motors for Europe regions

Within the framework of the Catalan presidency of the cooperation network

Catalonia International collaborated in the two-day visit to Barcelona from the most representative trade unions of the Four Motors for Europe regions, organized by their Catalan counterparts UGT and CCOO. The Catalan Governments holds the Presidency of this interregional cooperation network at the moment. Trade unionists from Lombardy and Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes held separate working meetings at the headquarters of the two main Catalan trade unions and were subsequently received by the President of the Catalan Government, Salvador Illa, and the Minister for European Union and Foreign Action, Jaume Duch. The representative from Baden-Württemberg was ultimately unable to travel to Barcelona.

The trade union representatives presented the President with a joint document of recommendations from a trade union perspective, with the aim of incorporating the European Pillar of Social Rights in a transversal and visible way into the future work plans of the Four Motors. They emphasized that European competitiveness, productivity and industrial strength must be linked to adequate work conditions, trade union participation, social cohesion, equal opportunities and the quality of employment. The document constitutes a roadmap outlining trade union demands to move towards a more social Europe.

The objective of the Four Motors for Europe is to strengthen the economic competitiveness and technological innovation of these four territories, which stand out as European leaders in these fields.
