The sixth edition of this gathering was scheduled to take place in Calonge on 4 July, with the collaboration of Catalunya Internacional

The sixth edition of the pro-European discussion forum organised by Europa en Blau, scheduled for Saturday 4 July at Calonge Castle, had to be cancelled due to the emergency caused by a major wildfire in the Les Gavarres massif. The fire broke out on Friday in La Bisbal d'Empordà and forced the confinement of residents in seven municipalities, including Calonge. By Saturday, the fire was still not under control, and the Civil Protection authorities advised people to avoid travelling throughout the affected area.

As the international atmosphere remains highly tense and complex, this year's theme was "An adrift EU in a world without rules." The aim was to provide a critical and constructive perspective on the role Europe should play in a global context marked by geopolitical instability, armed conflicts, trade tensions, migration challenges, and the redefinition of the world order.

The event, which for the fourth consecutive year was being organized in collaboration with Catalonia International, was going to bring together institutional representatives, experts, academics, and professionals from various fields who share a commitment to the European project. The opening session included Jordi Soler, Mayor of Calonge and Sant Antoni; Manuel Szapiro, Head of the European Commission Representation in Barcelona; Mariona Illamola Dausà, Director of Europe Direct Girona (University of Girona); and Laura Foraster i Lloret, Director-General of Catalonia International.

The keynote address had to be delivered by Jordi Pardo, Director-General of the Pau Casals Foundation, who will speak on "Culture as a driver of peace and European competitiveness." This was to be followed by two panel discussions: one on the right to housing, social cohesion, and quality of life, and another on the tension between journalism and institutional communication. The closing session featured Joaquim Millan, Director of Eurolocal and member of the Europa en Blau steering group; Jordi Soler, Mayor of Calonge and Sant Antoni; and Jaume Duch, Minister for European Union and Foreign Action of the Government of Catalonia.

During the event, the second Francesc Gambús Award was to be handed to CIDOB think tank (Barcelona Centre for International Affairs). Anna Ayuso, CIDOB's Research Coordinator, was going to receive the award from Oriol Lázaro, Director-General for External Catalonia at the Government of Catalonia, Mayor of Campdevànol, and member of the Europa en Blau steering group.

Since 2021, Europa en Blau has organized this annual gathering in Calonge with the aim of providing an open forum for debate among people committed to the European project, while fostering ideas and proposals to address the European Union's many challenges.
